Vasil Kiryienka of Team Sky held the best time in the 59.4 km time trial from Treviso to Valdobbiadene, of 1:17:52, with Luis Leon Sanchez in second. Contador held the third best time in the stage, only 14 seconds behind Kiryienka, and placing him back in the Maglia Rosa.

After separating his shoulder in stage 6, there was some question whether the Spaniard would be able to make back the time he lost against Fabio Aru, but he is now 2 minutes and 28 seconds ahead of the Astana team competitor. Audrey Amador of the Movistar team is 3 minutes and 36 seconds back from the lead.
